Championships: 5
2013 Prediction: Miss Playoffs
History:
The Edmonton Oilers joined the NHL in 1979, as one of the four franchises introduced through the NHL merger with the WHA. The Oilers then went on to win the Stanley Cup five times from 1984-1990.
Overview:
The Oilers will enter the 2013 shortened season with high hopes after receiving another 1st overall pick in Nail Yakupov and also a young defensemen who will be a star in Edmonton for years to come in Justin Schultz. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall also will return for the Oilers. Devan Dubynk will take the helm in net. The Oilers are a very exciting team and have a shot to make the playoffs this year if their young guns can play to their best abilites. Depth will be the key to Edmonton’s success this year. I’m just not sure they have enough depth.
How to Play as the Oilers:
With the Oiler young offensive core, energy will be at a maximum. Edmonton’s filled with high-flying young forwards who can make a play out of nothing. Look for counter attacks to lead to your best scoring chances.
Fun Fact:
During the 2011-12 season, the Oilers introduced the Oilers Octane, the NHL’s first cheerleading squad in Canada.
