Founded: 1993

2013 Prediction: Playoffs

History:

The franchise was founded by The Walt Disney Company in 1993 as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. The club has made the playoffs eight times over their history, including a Stanley Cup championship during the 2006-07 season.

Overview:

With the lockout over, the well rested Ducks led by Corey Perry, Teemu Selanne, and Ryan Getzlaf, will look to turn it around this year and bring playoff hockey back to Anaheim.  After a disappointing season by all accounts, 42 year old, Teemu Selanne will be well rested and in great condition to add to his career point totals this year. Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf will look to round into all star form after an off year last year. The Ducks have two keepers at the back in Cam Fowler and Luca Sbisa. Look for these promising young defenders to make great advancements this year and really start to create an identity for themselves. Jonas Hiller is back for another season in goal for Anaheim. He is the X-Factor for the Ducks. If he can stay healthy and get back into the form he was in a few years ago, they are poised to make a real run at the cup during this shortened season.

The Ducks made a key acquisition in acquiring Daniel Winnik in the offseason. He could prove to be the missing piece to the puzzel for the Ducks as he will provide key minutes on the penalty kill and on the 2nd or 3rd line. With Bobby Ryan staying with the Ducks, for now, he could benefit greatly from a bounce back season from Ryan Getzlaf and he could be a player to watch for. When he gets hot, nobody can stop him from scoring. Saku Koivu is back for another season and will provide much needed experience on and off the ice.

How to Play as the Ducks:

With the Ducks loaded up front, look to move the puck around and try to find the best option. And when you do, don’t be afraid to fire it as these Ducks can shoot. Jonas Hiller will be solid in goal and youngsters Cam Fowler and Luca Sbisa will bring energy to the Ducks defense. Try to find them at the points. Newly acquired Sheldon Souray has a rocket of a shot. Look to set him up for one timers with bodies in front of the net.

Fun Fact:

The Ducks Mascot, Wild Wing, regular descends from the rafters of the team’s home arena when making his in-game entrances, and has even unsuccessfully attempted to jump through a wall of fire.
