Founded: 1926

2013 Prediction: Make Playoffs

History:

The Detroit Red Wings were founded in 1926 as one of the “Original Six” franchises and since that time have won the most Stanley Cup championships (11) of any franchise based in the United States. The team has made the playoffs in 26 of the last 28 seasons, including the last 21 consecutive.

Overview:

The Red Wings will enter the 2013 shortened season with question marks after the loss of Tomas Holmstrom and captain Nicklas Lidstrom. New captain Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk will help carry the weight of this Detroit franchise. If Jimmy Howard can stay on top of his game and stay healthy, Detroit will not see a let down after the loss of Lidstrom.

How to Play as the Red Wings:

With the Red Wings talented attack lead by Pavel Datsyuk and new captain, Henrik Zetterberg, try to push for powerplay opportunities. Detroit can move the puck around beautifully and you will surely have success. Don’t be afraid to take some chances offensively as you have Jimmy Howard backing you up in net.

Fun Fact:

The Red Wings are well known for their tradition called “The Legend of the Octopus” where an Octopus is thrown out onto the ice surface during playoff games for good luck.
